ELLIPTICA
Elliptica is a single family home organized around an elliptical layout inscribed within a rectangular boundary. The spaces between these two geometries become layered thresholds—semi-outdoor zones that create privacy from the street while allowing the home to flow seamlessly between interior and exterior life. This interstitial condition defines the project’s spatial rhythm, guiding movement around the central courtyard garden and connecting the social and private areas of the home through a continuous loop.
Located on a corner lot in Surfside, Florida, the residence responds to its dual context: an active commercial edge across Abbott Avenue and a quiet residential frontage along 94th Street. Layered louvers, terraces, and shaded recesses mediate these contrasting conditions, filtering light and views while maintaining a sense of openness.
Materially, Elliptica draws inspiration from Miami’s Art Deco lineage and tropical modernist tradition. Curved concrete walls, circular porthole cutouts, and slender louvered screens reinterpret these familiar local motifs through a minimal and contemporary lens. The result is a home that feels both sculptural and serene—balancing precision and softness, technology and craft.
